A Canadian alternative to Smartwaiver

Smartwaiver is a well-established waiver platform. WaiverNorth was built in the Yukon for Canadian tour and activity businesses. Below is a side-by-side look at the points operators ask about most. Every Smartwaiver statement in the table comes from Smartwaiver's own public pages, with the date we checked it and a link to the source.

Comparison verified as of 2026-09-26. Each row links to the public page it was checked against.

Switching from Smartwaiver

Switching doesn't mean leaving your history behind, and it isn't a do-it-yourself job. We move your Smartwaiver records for you, free on every plan: the original signed PDFs byte for byte, signing dates and times, signature images, participants, custom answers and tags. Imported waivers are marked as imported and never count toward your monthly limit. When the import is done we reconcile it against Smartwaiver's own counts, per year, so you can see that every record arrived. You provide a Smartwaiver API key through Connect Smartwaiver in your settings and keep your Smartwaiver account until the import is confirmed. Once your waiver is published, add the new signing link or QR code to your booking confirmations and you are ready.

Frequently asked questions

Will my old waivers still be valid?

Importing doesn't change what your guests signed. Each original PDF is kept byte for byte, exactly as it was on the day of signing. The import adds a searchable copy of the data next to it and never replaces the original.

Do imported waivers count toward my monthly limit?

No. Imported waivers are history, not new signings. They never count toward your monthly limit or your usage notices, and they are stored like every other waiver: locked for your retention period, with a second copy in a separate Canadian region.

What do I have to do for the import?

Create an API key in Smartwaiver and paste it under Settings, Company, Connect Smartwaiver. We run the import and send you the reconciliation and a short list of records to compare with Smartwaiver yourself. Keep your Smartwaiver account until you have confirmed the result.
